The new Labour Government has announced that over 20,000 pensioners in Chester South & Eddisbury are set to lose out on their Winter Fuel Payments this winter.
In a recent debate in the House of Commons, local MP Aphra Brandreth highlighted the human cost of Labour’s cruel political decision and called on Ministers to rethink the policy.
Aphra voted with fellow Conservative MPs against Labour’s planned changes, but the motion was approved on the back of Labour votes, meaning that thousands of local pensioners will lose up to £300 to help with the cost of heating their homes this winter.
Commenting after the vote, Aphra said:
‘Local pensioners who have paid into the system all their working lives deserve to enjoy their retirement with dignity and security.
At the same time the Labour Government has taken away financial support for vulnerable pensioners, it has awarded billions of pounds to the unions that bankroll them.
This is a kick in the teeth for local pensioners, and I will do everything I can to speak out about this cruel policy.
Please fill out my petition below and send a message to the Labour Government.’
