Aphra Brandreth, Member of Parliament for Chester South and Eddisbury, has recently visited Leighton Hospital to meet with Mr Ian Moston, Chief Executive Officer of the Mid Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust. The meeting follows confirmation from the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, the Rt Hon Wes Streeting MP, that the rebuild of Leighton Hospital will continue, on schedule and at pace.
Aphra Brandreth, the newly-elected Member of Parliament for Chester South and Eddisbury, has visited Leighton Hospital to meet with Ian Moston, CEO of the Mid Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust, to be updated on progress regarding the new hospital build announced under the pervious government’s New Hospital Programme.
Prior to and since her election, Aphra Brandreth MP has been campaigning for the rebuild project to go ahead, at pace, to improve patient and staff safety. Earlier this year, when the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Chester South and Eddisbury, she attended a Westminster Hall debate on the topic of Leighton Hospital’s rebuild and met with the then Minister of State in the Department for Health and Social Care, the Rt Hon Andrew Stephenson, to ensure that the government were aware of the need to progress with the rebuild plans. Since her election, she has tabled a Written Parliamentary Question to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to ask for an update on plans following the Chancellor’s statement in which she referred to a review of the New Hospitals Programme.
The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care recently wrote to MPs to inform them that hospitals affected by Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) would not be subject to a review and would go ahead as planned. Aphra Brandreth MP has welcomed the news and has committed to working along side Ian Moston and the rest of the team at Leighton Hospital to ensure that the Government remain committed to the project and timescales.
Commenting, Aphra Brandreth MP said:
“It was great to meet with Ian at Leighton Hospital and to learn more about his positive vision for the future of care at Leighton Hospital. It is of the utmost importance that the rebuild goes ahead on schedule and at pace for the safety of patients and staff and I welcome the Secretary of State’s announcement. While Leighton Hospital does not sit in my constituency of Chester South and Eddisbury it provides a vital service to many of my constituents and I am committed to working with Ian and holding the government to account so that the rebuild can be completed as quickly as possible.”
